PHU-KARIANG Learning Center
ศูนย์การเรียนรู้ ภูกะเหรี่ยง
Phu Kariang is a working rice and orchard farm on the edge of Si Nawa subdistrict, a short drive from Nakhon Nayok town, run as an agritourism learning centre on around 60 rai of family land. Entry costs 49 THB, paid as a coupon rather than a straight ticket — you redeem it at the gate for a drink, a snack, or a bag of feed for the animals.
The farm is built around a set of hands-on learning stations rather than a single tour route. A long wooden bridge, opened in April 2017, runs out across the rice paddies for photos over the fields. The Ratanajan Museum, on the upper floor of a wooden farmhouse, displays farm tools and household objects collected from three local families — the Junla, Ratchasunthorn and Chatrapalo lines — with a raised rice barn behind it. Demonstration plots take rice from seedling trays through to the milling floor, where old hand-cranked equipment still turns grain into rice, and mulberries can be picked straight from the orchard rows in season. Water buffaloes work the paddies alongside free-range chickens and ducks rather than standing around for photos. Pre-booked groups can add a package of three activities, including a Thai cooking session using produce grown on site, for 350 THB.
Insider Tip: Book the cooking-class package ahead by phone or Facebook message — it isn’t offered to walk-in visitors, and slots fill on weekend mornings when school groups visit.
Weekends bring day-tripping families and the occasional tour van from Bangkok, but the pace stays rural — no piped music, no souvenir stalls beyond the on-site shop. The farm is at its most active from around 09:00, once the morning coolness has worn off and staff are running the rice and cooking demonstrations; by mid-afternoon on hot-season weekends the shade thins out fast.
Watch out: The farm only opens to general visitors Friday to Sunday and on public holidays. Turning up on a Monday or Wednesday without a pre-arranged group booking means an empty car park.
- Entry: 49 THB (redeemable coupon), same for Thai and foreign visitors
- Hours: Fri-Sun and public holidays, 08:00-18:00 (walk-in); other weekdays by group booking
- Cooking class: 350 THB for a package of three pre-booked activities
- Address: 104 Moo 1, Si Nawa, Mueang Nakhon Nayok 26000
- Getting there: Car or motorbike; a short drive from Nakhon Nayok town
Reach the farm by car or motorbike from Nakhon Nayok town — there’s no public transport link to the gate. It pairs well with a day that also takes in Namtok Sarika or the shaded grounds at Wang Takhrai, both a short drive further into the province.
