Ban Hun Lek

Ban Hun Lek — “iron robot house” — is an open-air sculpture garden in Talat Kruat subdistrict, Ang Thong, built entirely from repurposed scrap metal and old engine parts. Adults pay 60 THB, children 30 THB, and it’s open daily 09:00-17:00.

A local artist welds discarded car and machine parts into life-size film and comic-book characters: Iron Man, Transformers, the Hulk, Captain America, Batman, and creatures from Predator and Avatar stand alongside iron horses and a set of Buddhist figures, including an iron Buddha and Ganesh. The scale ranges from desk-sized pieces to full-height robots you can walk right up to and photograph beside. Most of the collection sits outdoors in a walk-through yard, with smaller finished pieces displayed under cover near the entrance.

The site is unmistakable from the road — several of the taller sculptures are visible from the highway on approach, which is how most visitors first notice it. A cafe on the property serves drinks and snacks, including confections shaped like nuts, bolts and wrenches that play on the metalwork theme, giving families a reason to linger rather than just pass through in ten minutes. There’s no shade over parts of the yard, so midday visits in the hot season can be uncomfortable; early morning or later afternoon are more comfortable for walking the full grounds.

Insider Tip: The sculptures photograph best in late afternoon light, when the low sun picks out the welded texture and rust patina on the metal that gets washed out at midday.

Watch out: Edges and welds on some pieces are rough — keep small children from climbing on the sculptures, and mind bare skin against sun-heated metal in the afternoon.
