Sai Ngam Hot Spring
น้ำพุร้อนไทรงาม
Sai Ngam Hot Spring sits inside forest cover about 15km north of Pai, off Route 1095 toward Mae Hong Son — turn at the blue sign roughly 11km along the highway, then follow the side road 4km in to the forestry entrance booth. The water is natural and untreated, running an emerald, near-transparent clear across three tiered pools, with the uppermost pool the warmest at around 34-36°C and no sulfur smell to speak of — a point regulars raise when comparing it to Pai’s other hot springs.
Entry isn’t a flat gate fee anymore; it comes bundled into a same-day pass for the Lum Nam Pai Wildlife Sanctuary, which covers this and other sites inside the protected area. Guides put the standard rate at 200 THB for adults and 100 THB for children, plus a small vehicle charge, though pricing at Thai park and sanctuary gates shifts without much notice and at least one recent report cites a foreigner rate as high as 400 THB — worth carrying extra cash rather than counting on the lower figure. On site there are changing rooms, toilets, lockers, and food stalls, enough infrastructure that this doesn’t feel like a wild swim despite the forest setting.
The pools are compact rather than sprawling, so a busy afternoon means sharing space rather than finding a quiet corner — arrive early or late in the day if solitude matters more than convenience. The surrounding tree cover keeps the whole site shaded and noticeably cooler than the open road in, which is part of the appeal after a hot ride out from Pai.
Insider Tip: Weekday mornings are the quiet window — the pools fill up fast with day-trippers by early afternoon, especially in high season (November-February) when Pai itself is busiest.
Watch out: The side road climbing to the entrance booth has steep, winding stretches. A capable 150cc+ bike or a car handles it fine; a small automatic scooter or an inexperienced rider will find it uncomfortable, more so if it’s wet.
