Bangkok has hundreds of temples but three stand out as near-mandatory for first-time visitors, and this four-hour private tour covers them in a sensible circuit with a licensed English-speaking guide. Wat Traimit, Wat Pho and Wat Benchamabophit, with hotel pickup in downtown Bangkok and admission tickets included. Optional upgrade swaps the standard vehicle for a luxury VIP van.

Pickup comes from your downtown hotel; outlying hotels meet at MRT Wat Mangkon at 9am or 1:30pm. Wat Traimit in Chinatown houses the world’s largest solid gold Buddha, a 5.5-tonne gilded figure rediscovered in 1955 when plaster cracked off a supposedly unremarkable statue. Wat Pho next, a vast complex famous for its 46-metre reclining Buddha and the UNESCO-listed massage-school inscriptions. Wat Benchamabophit (the Marble Temple) closes the route, its ordination hall built from Italian Carrara marble in late-19th-century reformist style, with a courtyard of 52 Buddha images representing different regional traditions. The tour also drives past Chinatown, the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall and Chitralada Palace.

Private format means no sharing with strangers and a pace that fits your group. Modest clothing required at all three temples. Travel insurance up to 1,000,000 THB per person is included; lunch and personal expenses aren’t. The luxury VIP van option includes a baby car seat by advance request. Solid 4.9 rating across 329 reviews. Admission tickets to all three temples, travel accident insurance up to 1,000,000 THB per person, hotel pickup and drop-off in Bangkok downtown, and a licensed English-speaking guide are included. Lunch and personal expenses aren’t. Wat Benchamabophit is the quietest of the three and most people linger longer there once they arrive. Good as a first-day anchor for a Bangkok stay.

Itinerary

1

Stop

Wat Traimit (the Temple of Golden Buddha) is a public temple famous for its enormous gold Buddha image informally called “the Golden Buddha” in the position of subduing the evil. This Golden Buddha image is about 700-800 years old since it is likely to be casted in Sukhothai era, the early beginning of Thai history.

2

Stop

Bangkok Chinatown is one of the largest Chinatown located inside cities. It is arguable that Bangkok Chinatown is one of the best to discover what makes it so unique. The road going through this Chinatown is Yaowarat Road, built in 1891 (or 2434 Buddhist Era). This 2 kilometer road is often called “the Dragon Road”, connecting the curve-shaped Chinatown’s historical neighborhood.

3

Stop

Wat Pho (the Temple of Reclining Buddha) is attracting more visitors as a result of its registration with the UNESCO as one of the “Memory of the World”. Wat Pho is well known for its gold-leaf covered “the Reclining Buddha Image”, the gigantic statue with 46 meters in length and 15 meters in height. Moreover, the feet of the Reclining Buddha Image are beautifully inlaid with mother-of-pearl carved with holy signs.

4

Stop

The Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall is informally called “the White House” of Bangkok. It is an impressive building to be used as a reception hall for the Dusit Palace. Designed in Italian Renaissance style, it is made from Italian white marble with a large dome in the center and six smaller surrounding domes.

5

Stop

Chitralada Palace is spoken for short as "the King Palace” by Thai people. It is the residence of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit in Bangkok and has a total area of 4 square kilometers. The Chitralada Palace is also home to dairy farm and factories built by the late King Rama IX Bhumibol Adulyadej. The palace has research centers on grazing animals and agricultural products to improve the quality of lives of Thai people.
