The Phu Khae Botanical Garden is Thailand’s first botanical garden, opened in 1941 on Phahon Yothin Road in Saraburi, roughly halfway between Saraburi and Lopburi towns. It is a lowland garden set against a forested limestone hill — Phu Khae — rather than a cool highland retreat, and it is managed by the Department of National Parks. The grounds cover several square kilometres of planted collections and naturally regenerated dry evergreen forest.

Paths and a one-way drive loop through themed sections: an arboretum, a palm collection, bamboo and medicinal-plant plots, and stands of native forest trees labelled for study. Birds and butterflies are common in the quieter corners, and there is a small natural-history museum near the entrance. It is a place for a calm walk and some plant-spotting rather than a manicured flower garden, and it sees few foreign visitors.

Admission is free and the garden is open daily, roughly 08:00 to 18:00. It sits directly on Phahon Yothin Road (Highway 1), so it is easiest to reach by car, though Saraburi–Lopburi buses pass the entrance. Bring water and insect repellent, wear closed shoes for the forest trails, and allow an hour or two. It works well as a roadside break on the drive north towards Lopburi or the northeast.
