Suan Son Pradiphat Beach

หาดสวนสนประดิพัทธ์

Hua Hin Reviewed Jul 2026
Entry Free

Suan Son Pradiphat Beach sits about 9 km south of central Hua Hin, on land managed by the Royal Thai Army’s welfare office. Despite the military management, it’s freely open to visitors, Thai and foreign alike — there’s a checkpoint on the access road, but it exists for the small vehicle fee, not to screen who gets in. That’s worth stating plainly, since a handful of Thailand’s other military-run beaches do restrict foreign visitors and this one doesn’t.

What sets it apart is the tree cover. Most of Thailand’s coastline runs to palms; here, mature casuarina — a pine-like species locally called son — grows in a continuous band right down to the sand, giving the whole beach shade that most tropical coastlines don’t have. A Bryde’s whale skeleton is on display near the entrance, and paved paths run through the pine grove for cycling and walking between the shaded areas and the open shoreline where swimming is easiest.

Insider Tip: The weekend excursion train from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong station stops here on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, a novelty way to arrive that also brings a lot of day-trippers with it — go on a weekday if you want the beach quieter.

The army welfare office runs restaurants, food courts, and a few basic beachside stalls, along with sunbed and umbrella rental. It’s a functional, family-oriented beach rather than a resort strip — closer to a well-kept public park with sand than to Hua Hin’s hotel-lined beachfront further north.

Watch out: Vehicle entry carries a small checkpoint fee (roughly 10 THB for a motorbike, 20 THB for a car), which some visitors mistake for a personal admission charge. It isn’t — walking or arriving by train costs nothing.

Combine it with Rajabhakti Park, about 2 km away, or continue north to Hat Hua Hin for the town’s main beachfront and nightlife. All three sit within easy reach of central Hua Hin.

Key Facts:
  • Entry: Free on foot; small vehicle fee at the checkpoint (~10-20 THB)
  • Foreigner access: Open to all visitors — not one of the restricted military beaches
  • Distance from Hua Hin: About 9 km south
  • Getting there: Taxi, songthaew, or rental scooter; weekend excursion train from Bangkok terminates nearby
  • What’s different: Shade from mature casuarina pines, not the usual palms

Frequently Asked Questions

Can foreign visitors get onto the beach freely?
Yes. The beach is managed by the Royal Thai Army's welfare office and sits inside an army zone, but there's an open checkpoint on the access road that waves civilians, Thai or foreign, through without paperwork — this isn't one of the restricted military beaches that turns foreigners away.
Is there an entrance fee?
Walking in is free. There's a small vehicle fee at the checkpoint — around 10 THB for motorbikes, 20 THB for cars, more for buses — which covers parking rather than personal entry.
What makes this beach different from others near Hua Hin?
The casuarina pines. Most Thai beaches are lined with palms; here mature pine-like trees grow right up to the sand, giving continuous shade along the shoreline — genuinely unusual for this coast.
Can you get there by train?
Yes — a novelty steam/diesel excursion train from Bangkok's Hua Lamphong runs here on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, terminating a five-minute walk from the beach. Otherwise it's taxi, songthaew, or rental scooter from Hua Hin.
How far is it from central Hua Hin?
About 9 km south, roughly a 15-20 minute drive, close to Rajabhakti Park.
