Grand Canyon Water Park Chiang Mai
Grand Canyon Water Park sits in a flooded former quarry in Hang Dong, about 25 to 30 minutes southwest of central Chiang Mai. The draw is a floating inflatable obstacle course over deep green water ringed by red quarry cliffs, plus a wakeboard cable, a zip line and one sanctioned cliff-jump point (roughly 8 metres). Adult tickets run from about 550 THB for a standard pass up to around 950 THB for the all-in package, and it’s open daily, roughly 10am to 6pm. Everyone wears a life jacket and lifeguards are on duty.
What you can do
The centrepiece is the aqua park — a large inflatable assault course of slides, climbing walls and balance beams anchored on the water, which is where most people spend their time falling off things and climbing back on. Around it are a zip line that drops you into the lake, a wakeboard cable for those who want to try it, and open swimming areas. The one designated jump platform, about 8 metres up, is the only spot you’re allowed to leap from. The quarry walls make the whole place feel more dramatic than a standard pool complex.
Insider Tip: Book online before you go — Klook and similar platforms usually undercut the gate price, and you skip the queue. Bring a waterproof phone pouch; there’s nowhere dry to keep a phone while you’re on the course.
Two “Grand Canyons” — which is which
This is the point that trips people up. There are two neighbouring sites in the same Hang Dong quarry area:
- Grand Canyon Water Park (this page) — the inflatable aqua park, wakeboard and zip line, with the higher ticket.
- Grand Canyon Hang Dong next door — a cheaper entry (around 100 THB) that’s really a swimming and cliff-jumping spot off the quarry walls, with far fewer facilities.
If you’ve seen photos of people diving off sheer red cliffs, that’s usually the second one. Decide which experience you want before you set off, as they charge separately.
Watch out: You need to be comfortable in deep water — the quarry is deep and there’s no shallow end on the course. Life jackets are compulsory and lifeguards watch the water, but strong swimming confidence makes the day far more fun than nervous.
Getting there
It’s a 25–30 minute drive from the old city, heading southwest into Hang Dong. Come by car, Grab or scooter; there’s parking on site. It pairs well with a relaxed afternoon rather than a packed sightseeing day.
