Allow Half a day; ~60 seconds freefall, 4-5 minutes under canopy
Best November-January cool season for the clearest mountain views

There is a dropzone in Chiang Mai — a fact that surprises most travellers who assume Thai skydiving means the beach resorts. Skydive Chiang Mai flies from Phusanfah Airfield in Mae Taeng, about 50 minutes north of the Old City, lifting tandem passengers to 13,000 feet in a PAC 750 for up to 60 seconds of freefall over the mountains that wall the northern horizon.

The jump

The ride up is half the show: a 15-20 minute climb with the Mae Taeng valley unrolling below — reservoirs, rice terraces and the ridges toward Chiang Dao. At altitude you exit harnessed to your instructor, freefall at roughly 200 km/h, then hang for 4-5 minutes under canopy while the landscape reassembles itself beneath your feet. No experience is needed; the ground briefing covers your part, which is mostly body position and remembering to breathe. The operation displays USPA affiliation, the American sport-parachuting standard.

Prices and practicalities

The 2026 rate card runs 8,850 THB for the jump, 12,750 THB with instructor handcam footage, and 15,550 THB with a dedicated camera flyer — pricing that ranks among the cheapest tandem jumps in Asia. Chiang Mai’s cool-season air (November-January) gives the clearest mountain views; the February-April smoke season blurs them badly. Like every airborne activity here, jumps scrub in bad weather, so schedule your jump early in the trip rather than the final morning. Published age and weight limits weren’t available at the time of writing — confirm yours directly when booking.

Watch out: The dropzone shares Phusanfah Airfield with a paramotor operation, and OTA listings sometimes blur the two. If you booked a skydive, you want Skydive Chiang Mai’s own confirmation — not a paramotor voucher at the same address.

Key Facts:
  • Cost: 8,850 THB tandem; 12,750 THB handcam; 15,550 THB cameraman (2026)
  • Altitude: 13,000 ft — up to 60 seconds freefall, 4-5 minutes canopy

The same stretch of Mae Taeng countryside hosts SkyExtreme’s paramotor strip a couple of kilometres away — the gentler way to get airborne if 13,000 feet is a step too far. Every other way to fly here, priced and compared, is in our guide to flying over Chiang Mai.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you actually skydive in Chiang Mai?
Yes. Skydive Chiang Mai operates a dropzone at Phusanfah Airfield in Mae Taeng, about 50 minutes from the Old City and the airport — tandem jumps from 13,000 feet over the mountains and reservoirs north of the city.
How much does a tandem skydive cost?
8,850 THB for the jump alone as of 2026, 12,750 THB with handcam video, or 15,550 THB with a separate cameraman flying alongside for HD photos and video — among the lowest tandem prices anywhere in Asia.
What is the jump like?
A 15-20 minute scenic climb in a PAC 750 jump plane to 13,000 feet, up to 60 seconds of freefall harnessed to an instructor, then 4-5 minutes floating under canopy over Mae Taeng's patchwork of mountains, fields and water.
Do I need experience?
No — tandem jumps need no training beyond the ground briefing; your instructor handles everything. The dropzone displays USPA (United States Parachute Association) affiliation. Age and weight limits aren't published online, so confirm your details with the dropzone when booking.
How do I book?
Direct via skydivechiangmaiofficial.com or by phone, or through GetYourGuide and KKday. Jumps are weather-dependent, so book early in your stay and keep a backup morning free.
