Skydive Chiang Mai

There is a dropzone in Chiang Mai — a fact that surprises most travellers who assume Thai skydiving means the beach resorts. Skydive Chiang Mai flies from Phusanfah Airfield in Mae Taeng, about 50 minutes north of the Old City, lifting tandem passengers to 13,000 feet in a PAC 750 for up to 60 seconds of freefall over the mountains that wall the northern horizon.

The jump

The ride up is half the show: a 15-20 minute climb with the Mae Taeng valley unrolling below — reservoirs, rice terraces and the ridges toward Chiang Dao. At altitude you exit harnessed to your instructor, freefall at roughly 200 km/h, then hang for 4-5 minutes under canopy while the landscape reassembles itself beneath your feet. No experience is needed; the ground briefing covers your part, which is mostly body position and remembering to breathe. The operation displays USPA affiliation, the American sport-parachuting standard.

Prices and practicalities

The 2026 rate card runs 8,850 THB for the jump, 12,750 THB with instructor handcam footage, and 15,550 THB with a dedicated camera flyer — pricing that ranks among the cheapest tandem jumps in Asia. Chiang Mai’s cool-season air (November-January) gives the clearest mountain views; the February-April smoke season blurs them badly. Like every airborne activity here, jumps scrub in bad weather, so schedule your jump early in the trip rather than the final morning.
